Cirrus OCT
This advance imaging instrument shows us the various layers of the retina in high definition. This is very important for the diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Macular Fibrosis and Macular Degeneration. We can also better judge the progress of our treatments for these conditions.

Visual Fields
Visual Fields have always been the main studies done to follow the progression of glaucoma. Other disorders including stroke and multiple sclerosis can be followed with visual fields. Some times field studies are done to look out for the development of retina damage from drugs such as Plaquenil or Tamoxifen.

Retinal Photograph
Documentation of the retina is vital for diagnosis and following various eye diseases including Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, and many others. This also helps the patient see and understand the condition they have and why treatment is so important.

Visual Evoked Potentials and Electroretinogram
This is a technology that has only recently been able to advance to the office setting due to faster computers. Recent studies have shown this technology is able to detect retinal and optic nerve damage before many of the other systems we have such as visual fields and OCT studies. Glaucoma may be detected up to eight years earlier with this device! The reason this diagnostic tool can detect disease earlier may be in the fact that it detects loss or reduced function and not just actual total loss or cell death. There is also new information showing the usefulness of this device for following macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.

Fluorescein Angiography
Fluorescein angiography is used to demonstrate the blood vessels of the retina. This is very important for macular degeneration especially if the disease is turning to the wet type. Many other conditions such as Diabetes, Vein Occlusions, and Ocular Stroke can be seen by using this type of study.

LenStar
This is the most advanced way of determining the proper power lens implant to use when performing cataract surgery. Using this machine greatly increases the acuracy for prescribing the best lens implant. It is very user and patient friendly. Performing many measurements in just a few seconds, this is the next generation lens implant measuring device taking our accuracy to an even higher level.

3-D Wave Front Analyzer
In less than 30 seconds the 3-D Wave:
- scans the eye and determines the prescription needed for glasses
- maps the curvature of the cornea
- diagnoses distortions in your eye
- determines the lens implant best suited for a patient in order to correct vision during cataract surgery

Topography
Corneal topography creates a map of the curvature of the front of the eye and can reveal astigmatism or other corneal irregularities. It is very useful when performing any type of refractive surgery or using the implantable contact lens.

Slit Lamp Photography
Photographs of the iris or cornea can show various abnormal conditions such as growths, tumors, or infections. Again, these photos are useful for both diagnosis and following treatment.

Argon Laser
The Argon laser is used for the treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, and Wet Macular Degeneration. This laser creates small burns in the retina which can help stop bleeding. Or for glaucoma, small burns in the drainage canal of the eye are made to lower the eye pressure.

YAG Laser
The YAG laser is used primarily for removal of the film that often forms after cataract surgery. This is a completely painless procedure and is usually done only once per eye. There are some additional uses of this laser such as to make a hole in the iris to lower eye pressure for a certain type of glaucoma. Now, with the latest laser, we can vaporize floaters and membranes in the eye that used to have to have surgery to remove.

Specular Microscopy
The Specular Microscope is used to image the inside layer of the cornea, the clear front of the eye. There are several diseases and inherited disorders that can affect this part of the eye and lead to loss of visoin. The cornea can be replaced through a transplant operation if the damage too great.

Tear Osmolarity
Tear Osmolarity is the measurement of the concentration of disolved salts and minerals in your tears. If you have Dysfunctional Tear Syndrome, then your tear osmolarity should be elevated. Depending on the actual osmolarity number, we will treat you with different therapies.
